Dean Calls on Bush to Return Abramoff Campaign Cash

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

News from the DNC:

Washington, DC -- Today, GOP super-lobbyist and Tom DeLay confidante Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to federal charges of fraud and tax evasion, clearing the way for him to cooperate in a massive government investigation of influence peddling involving members of Congress, according to the Associated Press. [AP, 1/3/06; Washington Post, 1/3/06] Abramoff, who was designated a Pioneer by President Bushs re-election campaign in 2004, raised more than $100,000 for President Bush.

In light of Abramoffs guilty plea to three federal criminal charges, Democratic National Committee Howard Dean renewed his call for President Bush to return the more than $100,000 that the scandal-plagued lobbyist raised for his re-election campaign:

Now that Jack Abramoff has pleaded guilty to three federal criminal charges, I again call on President Bush to return the more than $100,000 raised for his re-election campaign by the former Republican super-lobbyist and Delay confidante. Jack Abramoff is an example of the abuse of power and culture of corruption that the Republicans have brought to Washington. As such, President Bush should have no hesitation about immediately returning the funds that Abramoff raised for his re-election."
