Bush's
2nd Choice: After
McCain Turned Down Bush, W. Settled On His Second Choice... Cheney:
The Wrong Choice for America
As the Bush spin machine goes into overdrive, it’s important to remember
that in 2000 John McCain turned down the chance to be Bush’s running
mate. Unfortunately, Bush’s second choice turned out to be the wrong
choice for America.
McCain Turned Bush Down in 2000...
McCain: “I’m not running for vice president. President
Bush in 2000 asked me if I was interested in being vice president. I said no then.
I’m not interested in being vice president now.” [NBC, “Today,” 3/18/04]
McCain: “I don’t want to be vice president of the United States... I would
not be vice president of the United States on either ticket. I told President
Bush when he asked me in 2000 if I--if--when he asked me if I was interested.”
[CBS, “The Early Show,” 3/18/04]

America Ended Up with The Wrong Choice
- Cheney
fought all the way to the Supreme Court to keep special interest access
to national energy
policy secret.
- Cheney
stove-piped and cherry-picked intelligence leading up to the war in
Iraq, and misled the country on the threats we faced.
- Cheney
continues to make false assertions about Iraq’s terrorist ties.
- Cheney’s
office “coordinated” the rewarding of $7 billion in no-bid Iraq contracts
